In Australia, the National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM) has called for greater Federal Government investment in CAM research. Executive director Alan Bensoussan said consumers are losing out because of a lack of research into natural therapies.
According to the NICM, two thirds of Australians use some form of alternative medicine, and the industry is worth approx $2 billion a year, but the sector only receives a fraction of the investment put into more traditional forms of medication.
